Museum Ipswich

Welcome To Ipswich Transport Museum

History Museum

Located in Ipswich is our fully accredited museum, dedicated to presenting transport and engineering history. We’re a self sufficient, non profit organisation. Our museum building itself has historic significance throughout. It was a former Ipswich corporation transport trolleybus depot back in 1936/37. The main hall, covering some of 200 years, displays our larger exhibits where you can see our engrossing collection of Ipswich’s transport and engineering heritage. We pride ourselves on being custodians of the largest collection of Transport and engineering exhibits, vehicles and ephemera in the UK.

History And Transport Museum Ipswich

The Museum was extensively refurbished in 2001 and has been based here since 1989. We allow entry inside many of our static vehicles enabling you experience some of the fascinating sights and sounds from the past. Some of our exhibits are maintained in operational condition and are used for hire or on special event open days.

The majority of the museum is on one level, but for areas with steps we have an accessible WC to accommodate those with mobility problems. We also offer a sunbeam tea room if you fancy a cuppa or a bite to eat. Our tearoom is available on most open days. Be aware there is a small step into the tea room, but assistance can be given if required. Looking for a unique souvenir or gift from your visit? Our well stocked gift shop has a variety of books, models, stationary and other items to suit all ages.

Other features within the museum:

• Baby change

• Restoration zone

• Model Railway

• Activity zone
